Godaiko Japanese Restaurant

A great staple Japanese restaurant! Red onion rings are incredible, really like the Godaiko Yakisoba, the sushi selection I find to be very standard. Would like to see more creativity and the introduction of some baked rolls. The host is always very friendly and attentive.

I love the lunch special.

We randomly decided to try this place on a Saturday night once we found out Texas Roadhouse had an hour wait. The sushi was fantastic and some of the best that I have ever had. The ramen was fairly bland but the lobster and shrimp yakisoba was delicious. I definitely recommend giving this a try!

Absolutely delicious... We stopped here on a whim, while passing through Ann Arbor, and it was one of the best lunches we've had in a very long time... The food was fresh and delicious, and the special tuna roll I got was one of the top 10 sushi rolls I've ever had in my life. Highly recommend! The venue was clean and welcoming, the staff was friendly and prompt, and the food was delicious!

Sushi, drink, and dessert. They all were great.

I had their daily special for $11.75. It was a 4 course meal for lunch. Everything was delicious. The flavor of the soup was delectable. There was enough food for 2 people. I will definitely go back & tell friends about it. What a gem I have missed for over 20 years.

Excellent service and great staff. I came back to this place a second time. The nigiri sushi, chicken sliders, and tea are very good. I didn’t enjoy the spider roll or the yakisoba as much as I did the first time. But I will say the shrimp lobster version of yakisoba is tastier. I really wanted to love this place because of the staff and atmosphere but some dishes were disappointing and it’s too pricy to be disappointing.

Godaiko is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The food is amazing and the service is excellent.

I went for lunch, the food was good, if a little pricey. There is a daily special, which is actually a great deal for the amount of food you get, it just did not match well with my dietary needs, or I would have ordered it. It had 4 different kinds of food, and I believe it was $11.75. The atmosphere is nice, kind of a mix between traditional Japanese and modern. The menu is a little confusing, I wish they would print a short description of the foods/ingredients.

It’s a nice place on a fancy side . Great to take your date out of anniversary or special occasion. The food was amazing

The spot is awesome and broad, the meals was delightful and the rates were very fair. fast, effective service and very friendly staff members. I highly recommend this place.

The chef and all the staff are amazing. very knowledgeable and service oriented. But the fish - it could not have been fresher or better prepared. Our entire party was delighted. Be sure to get the Sushi Tuna Nachos, delicious and enough for four as an appetizer. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Ate the lunch special recently and it is still very good. Frist ate there more than 20 years ago when I was a student at U of M and the food here is still super delicious!

In my 15+ years of dining at Godaiko, I have not had a bad meal yet! The lunch special is always delicious. The sashimi is outstanding! You can tell that the owners truly care about their customer's dining experience. Highly recommended!

Growing up around the corner, I used to come here all time. Their sashimi is absolutely amazing and completely worth it. Highly recommend the chirashi bowl, its big enough to feed two and its piled high with fresh cuts of assorted fish. The main reason for the lower rating is the service!! It is pretty terrible. I think that's why most people do not eat in the restaurant but get take out (including myself). The waitresses are not friendly, they always have an attitude and sport a frown. There is a younger man that works in the front as host and he literally spent the whole time crouched behind the counter watching videos on his phone. He should be let go. He did not greet us at all (or even acknowledge us), did not give us menus, basically was glued to his phone. Although the sushi is on the expensive, the quality is worth it. However they also charge a lot more for the smaller appetizers which is not worth it. Would recommend this restaurant for the sashimi/ specialty rolls only!

They have great specials for the rolls and drinks. Food was great. Place is clean. I would reconmend.

This place has hands down the best lunch specials... I never even look at what it is or ask but I always get it. The value for the food is fantastic, 4 course meal for something like $11 or $12 or something that includes soup, sushi of some sort, something with rice and some tempura. You really can't go wrong. The dinner is definitely not cheap... but you do get what you pay for. It's by all means not authentic but Asian Fusion as I call it and this chef is so creative with how he/she does it... nontraditional and super good! Restaurant Week is also a MUST for this place as the lunch special becomes 2 for $15! The Restaurant Week dinners are also probably the best you can get in town... yes! even better than The Earle or Chophouse on Restaurant week for dinner! That good!

I enjoy this place for lunch and dinner. Chirashi, among the others, is my favorite food here, but the noodles are so nice as well.

Restaurant is very clean and the food is overall good. However, it is rather pricy, and both times I've been there, the service was extremely slow despite the place being nearly empty.

The appetizer (Bang Shrimp) and the sushi were delicious (especially the Godaiko roll). The ramen noodles themselves tasted cheap, like Top Ramen packets from the store. Would stick to sushi next time.

The food and service were very good. Sushi tasted great, but the rolls were loose and had the tendency to start falling apart. Would still eat here again, very good flavors.

Great sushi selection and fun environment.

Godaiko has the best tasting sushi in Ann Arbor. They have a very good selection and use high quality ingredients. However, the dining room is small and uninspiring. And, most importantly it's easily the most expensive sushi in the city. I think that's why the place isn't crowded all the time and why I've given only 4 stars.

We get take out from here occasionally, always less than 15 minutes from order take out. Good local sushi for us, but doesn't blow me away.
